Where: Paris

What Can Happen When You Start a Story
with a Concept

Master Class
Presentation, Exercises, Discussion

As writers, we are usually willing to roll up our sleeves and wrangle with our plots and characters until they feel perfect. But are we willing to do the same to make sure we've got a concept that will hook everyone from agents and editors to readers? Should perfecting the concept maybe even be the first step to writing a great book? Mary Kole, agent with Andrea Brown Literary Agency since 2009, founder of the kidlit.com blog and author of the soon to be released book THE KIDLIT WRITER'S GUIDEBOOK will be leading a masterclass to explore these vary questions.

Mijade was created in 1993, a dream of its founder Michel Demeulenaere who was at the time a bookseller specializing in comics and children's books. Mijade specializes in picture books and middle grade/young adult novels..

Concerning their picture books (2-8 years) "We love books in which the everyday problems are transformed into the form of a fable or in a way that broadens the child's the point of view of the world. The goal is never to moralize but to bring about a dialogue with humor…"

They have two collections for older readers. "Zone J" (9-15 years) has a broad range of authors and styles with stories about life, mysteries, fantasy, humor. "Mijade roman" is contemporary fiction for young adults (from 15 years on).
